Mercedes-Benz unveils third-generation GLC EQ at Munich Motor Show

Today at the Munich International Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the third generation of its mid-size luxury crossover, the GLC EQ. Currently, only the fully electric variant has been showcased, while versions with internal combustion engines are expected to be launched later, approximately in 2027. The GLC EQ takes over from the EQC electric vehicle, which struggled to attract consumers and was quietly discontinued in 2023. To differentiate the new model from its unsuccessful predecessor, the branding has been refreshed. The new GLC's dimensions are 4.85 meters in length, 1.91 meters in width, and 1.64 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.97 meters. The exterior design of the model reflects Mercedes-Benz’s latest corporate identity, highlighted by a prominent grille with a near-vertical angle, reminiscent of the brand's vehicles from the 1970s. In the GLC EQ, there is an LED-lit imitation of a grille instead. Other notable features include the three-beam motif in the daytime running lights and a visually unified horizontal line of the rear lights. The GLC EQ 400 4Matic version will be the first to hit the European market, with an anticipated launch in spring 2026. This model is built on the MBEA platform with an 800-volt architecture and features two electric motors—one on each axle—providing all-wheel drive. The battery pack has a capacity of 94 kWh. The total power output of the system is 489 hp, allowing for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 210 km/h. The range on a full charge will be between 571 and 713 km, depending on driving conditions and style. The battery supports ultra-fast charging at stations up to 330 kW, enabling a range of 300 km to be added in just 22 minutes. The interior features an intriguing option called the "vegan package," which ensures that no natural leather or materials harmful to animal life have been used in its production. The chassis design incorporates adaptive air suspension Airmatic and a rear-wheel steering system borrowed from the S-Class W223. It's important to note that the predecessor GLC X254/C254 has been in production since 2022.
